It's the length of the songs that matter. Usually CDs can hold 80 minutes worth of music, which on average could be be 18-22 songs.

Direct from Wikipedia: A standard CD-R is a 1.2 mm thick disc made of polycarbonate with a 120 mm or 80 mm diameter. It has a storage capacity of 74 minutes of audio or 650 MiB of data. Non-standard CD-Rs are available with capacities of 79 minutes, 59 seconds and 74 frames (marketed as 80 minutes) /736,966,656 bytes (702 MiB), which they achieve by slightly exceeding the tolerances specified in the Orange Book CD-R/CD-RW standards.
Most CD-Rs on the market are of the 80 minute capacity. There are also 90 minute/790 MiB and 99 minute/870 MiB discs, though they are rare. Also due to the limitations of the data structures in the ATIP 90 and 99 minute blanks will identify as 80 minute ones and have to be burnt using the "overburn" options in the cd recording software.
--end of Wikipedia--
What this means to you : The file size of the individual files you are using to create the CD are only important in as much as they might help you to determine how long the song will be when converted to a format that a standard CD player can actually read. Practically all CDs you will purchase at a commercial retailer will be 80 minutes long, as this standard has essentially replaced the much-more-stable 74 minute discs. There are extremely few exceptions, and your computer probably won't actually know how to handle the larger capacity CDs properly, anyway. If you're unsure what kind of disc you have, check the packaging. It's practically always on there.
Your CD burning software will tell you when the CD is full. Listen to it. Make sure that you set the CD to be an AUDIO CD for home and car stereos, or you may end up with a Data CD, which will contain the songs in the original file format, and be unplayable on any player not marked "MP3".

Usually a cd is about 80 minutes, that means it can hold up to 80 minutes of music. Therefore you can fit in anywhere from 17- 25 songs on a cd depending on the length (time) of each song.

It depends on how many minutes it says that you can hold. Some say 80 minutes on the cd. So if you had 10 8 min songs you could maybe fit 10, if you had 3-4 min songs, you could maybe d/l 17 or 18. Just depends on how many minutes it'll hold. Also, it depends on if your burner will work & burn that many. My burner isn't very good. I dunno why but when my sis's try to burn cds they can only burn like 6 songs or it won't d/l @ all :(

a CD is typically about 80 minutes long. If each song is 5 minutes long, you can fit 16 songs. If each song is 4 minutes long you can fit 20 songs. You can fit 26 and a little bit if each song is 3 minutes long.

I usually can fit about 21, but it depends on the length of the songs and if you are burning an mp3, I can fit over 100 songs on those.

It depends on how long the songs are. I think the longest CD length I've seen is nearly 80 minutes long.
