you technically couldn't make them the same speed, but unless you are saying like a Intel P4 2.8ghz a Celeron at 2.8 and an AMD Athlon at 2.8, well, the Athlon will beat everything from the Intel 2.8s to about 3.77s to even 4ghz for Intel due to the difference inthe AMD cpu architecture.

think of a celeron as a 4 cylinder car, and pentium as 8 cyl. Athlon is AMD's competition for Intel's Pentium... now if you were to compare Athlon XP and Pentium same speed on both, AMD will be faster and maybe even more stable...

Its not the speed necessarily.
Its whats the design.
A AMD is faster at cetain things and a cheaper price than some Intel chips.
Some high end chips beat AMD but you pay extra $$$
You can't say a 8 cyclinder engine will be a another 8 cyclinder engline. One may have fuel enjection, turbo charger, gear ratio, special carb, etc. The cubic inic over a short to long block.

AMD is good for games(graphics), Intel Celeron is good for mobility(Laptop, blackberry), and the Intel pentium(Laptop or Standalone). All has it areas of best performance. Choose your battle field.

I think that the Intel Pentium, is the best quality processor, I always go with an Intel product.
