It's a factorial. It's the product of an integer times one less than the original integer times two less than the integer, until 1.

5! = 5x4x3x2x1 = 120.

Factorials are used to calculate odds in lotteries. In the Canadian 6/49 lottery you pick six numbers out of 49 choices. So the first digit has a 1/49 chance of being correct; no numbers can repeat so the odds of the next are 1/48; then 1/47 and so on.
The notation in this case is (I think) 6!49 which works out to about 1/14,000,000 against. The Super 7 lottery is 7!47 which is about 68 million to 1 against, so it has larger prizes for the same bet.

n! is read (n factorial). It is the factorial of n.
This is the complete definition of the factorial is

0! = 1
1! = 1
n! = n·(n - 1)!

In case you do not understand,
n! = n·(n - 1)·(n - 2)·(n - 3)·...·1

Examples:
5! = 5·4·3·2·1 = 120
2! = 2·1 = 2
0! = 1
7! = 7·6·5·4·3·2·1 = 5040

Some of its uses is for stat's permutation and combination, and for binomial expansion formulae...

5! = 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1

Basically its multipling every consecutive from n to 1

n(n - 1)(n - 2)(n - 3)(n - 4)(n - 5)(n - 6)(n - 7) and so on, as long as the last number is 1, in otherwords n - x = 1, whereas x < n

5! = 5(5 - 1)(5 - 2)(5 - 3)(5 - 4)
5! = 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1
5! = 120

You can find it only your computer's scientific calculator.

n! is n factorial which is every whole number from one to itself multiplied together. eg 7!=7*6*5*4*3*2=5040 the one is not necessary as one multiplied by any number is that same number. This is used a lot in statistics as you calculate permutations and combinations.

Putting an exclamation point after the number means that you want to do a factorial on it. 5 factorial would equal 5x4x3x2x1...

So basically factorial is multiplying together all the numbers before that number you have.

its the multiplication of all the positive integers less than and including n
e.g. 5! = 5.4.3.2.1
you can leave off the one as there's no point to it being there, it's just normally left in for conventions sake.

edit: oh yeah by the way I often use "." for multiplication

n can stand for anything, but one must factor in the correct number
