Actually, I think, the more significant question is - why would you want to know whether it is funny or not? People laugh or giggle for things that they don't usually explain but what is important is - to understand why are you reacting this way whenever you see them giggle - does it matter? Do you have to prove anything to them? You are what you are and if they don't seem to accept you or think that it's funny ---- you don't have to giggle with them but focus more on your own sensitivity to others' responses.

They want to take advantage of their shortcomings compared to your above average intelligent. Also you are already independent of yourself where most people your age are still very insecure about themselves in the way that want everyone to see them. So when they see someone that is already at a level of self pride that they are not yet at. It bothers them to a point that when some like yourself messes up they want to make sure everyone knows that someone like you messed up and it keeps the attention away from them so no one notice's them. Remember their are Leaders and there are Followers most people only want to Follow. So keep your head up and Lead the way.

I was faced with a similar problem for many years, mostly because of my accent. What I found was that sometimes things are just funny. Its not their fault that they find it funny, to them it just is. In my case it was really me, I was taking it personally. I really got over it. It was tough. But, I got to keep the friends I had and make some new ones.
I don't know your classmates. Are they friends? Potential friends?

It's not a question of taking advantage of your sensitivity at all. It is simply the nature of humankind. Think about it; boxing, football, auto racing, bull fighting. Anything dealing with violence or the possibility of failure and people get off at the result.
