If the sun were any farther from the earth we would all freeze to death. If it were any closer, we would all burn to death.

On the contrary. The sun is farther away from the earth in summer.
Winter is colder because the earth's axis is tilted. Winter occurs for the hemisphere which is tilted away from the sun (the northern hemisphere in January, the southern in July). This has two main effects on the winter hemisphere. First, the sun is above the horizon for fewer hours each day, so that hemisphere receives less heat from the sun. Also, sunlight strikes the ground at a shallower angle so that less energy per unit area is intercepted by the winter hemisphere. It is true that the earth is closest to the sun in January. However, the distance from the earth to the sun varies by only about 2% over a year. This causes a change of only 4% in the amount of solar radiation hitting the earth so this effect is not significant compared to the other two.
I bet a dollar to a donut that most of the conditions you listed above you never experienced. Your simply embellishing your condition, simply because your hot.

I have to concur with you!! I HATE THE SUMMER!! I don't see what all the fuss is about when the summer approaches. The people who claim to like summer complains about it when it gets here, and then when the winter comes around, they complain about that too!! There just isn't any pleasing people! Truthfully, I don't like either. I love fall or the spring. They are both seasons that are in between hot and cold. I don't like being too hot, and I don't like being too cold. Other than getting in a pool , and taking a dip in the summertime, there really isn't anything else that can relieve you of the heat. It's MISERABLE!! And bugs, heat-stroke, and west Nile virus is just SOME of the negative sides of summer. I wish the season didn't exist AT ALL!!

The solar is easily no longer close in the course of the summer season. imagine of ways the image voltaic works by a magnifying glass. an same effect occurs on the earth. the mild refracted by the ambience acts like a magnifying glass. The narrower the beam of sunshine, the hotter that is. contained in the U. S. the mild beam is narrower contained in the Phoenix AZ section. the nice and cozy temperature is displaced all around the rustic. The solar is close in the course of the wintry climate months and the beam of sunshine hitting the earth is wider making the temperatures less warm.

Actually, it not a case of the sun being closer, its due to the tilt of the earth in relation to the plane of it's orbit. During our summer, the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun allowing more direct radiation with less atmospheric absorption. I hate the heat and humidity, but, without it, agricultue becomes a pretty tough business.

I love summer! I mowed the lawn today and it was 103 outside. I just wear my hat and apply lots of sunblock. Plus, I drink tons of ice water throughout the day. I'd choose summer over winter ANY day!

it is so close to the earth because if it were any other place, then our human race would be non-existent. On mars there is no life because it is to far away from eh sun, and Venus, it is too hot for any human life
Oh and by the way summer rocks!!!:)

During summer, the earth is farther from the sun than in winter. Average is 93 million miles but it is at 91.5 million in winter and 94.5 in summer. The sun appears both brighter and bigger in the winter.

I certainly don't like this one so far. But not because it's too hot. I just wish there was one day that I could go out and leave the umbrella home. Even the ducks are wearing raincoats.
