Guys...the Family act says they have to give you the time off and let you come back to your job or an equal job (in pay and responsibility). In the U.S., it does NOT say the employer has to pay for ANY of the time taken off! I am a teacher and we don't get paid for any maternity leave. We just have to take our sick time. It sucks, I know, but that's the truth. So, be thankful of the 2 weeks she does get, and see if she has any sick/vacation time built up that she could use. I took my 1 week old newborn to post-planning with me b/c I ran out of sick days and did not want to lose pay. Sorry, unless they say she'll be fired if she doesn't return, then you have no grounds for a complaint. In some countries they even make companies pay for paternity leave, but not even maternity leave here in the U.S. (I still love the US, it's just not perfect.)

Two weeks is more than some get... most get 12 wks with NO pay. Take the 2 weeks, that's a whole paycheck and then maybe she can return part time after 6 weeks. At least then there would be $$ coming in.
Be supportive... she needs you!!!
Good luck and Congrats on the baby!!

If your wife has a sick time accurred, she may use that.. but if she only has 2 weeks of sick time, that is only amount they will pay.. family leave act does not require the company to pay your wife while she is out...

Do what most people do.. After the baby, go back to work after two weeks. As long as it is not a C-section, she shouldn't have difficulties.. unless it involves heavy lifting..

two weeks of her maternity leave? The family medical leave act requires places of work to give you 12 weeks off without pay when you have a child, guaranteeing your job back when you return. But, you need to have been there at least one year.
No employer is required to give paid time off in the U.S. Some do, but most don't.

By law your employer is required to give you six weeks. Also, check with your employer and see if they offer leave for new fathers. My boss recently had a baby and her husband actually received more maternity time off than she did. She got 8 weeks, he got 12.

thats not illegal. By law, every company that has family medical leave act must give 6 weeks maternity leave. Most places do that without pay. She's lucky that she;s even getting paid 2 weeks

Not sure what you're asking. Can you expand a little more on this? Are you asking if it's legal that they only pay her 2 weeks, and not 50% of her pay through the duration of her preganancy?

if she has been there for at least a year prior to the 11th week before the baby is due, they have to pay her 26 weeks maternity pay.(this may have been extended, I'm not sure UK) Go to your citizens advice beuraux for advice. You have rights, make sure you get ehat you are entitled to.
