I think you should get a guinea pig. It is cute, loveable and a lot of fun to play with. Guinea pigs are small mammals, you can walk them, and they can go in a cage. Sounds perfect and exactly what you are looking for!

Hmm- A small mammal (not a dog) that you can keep in a cage, walk, and teach tricks to. That can be a tall order.
If you get them young enough, most animals can be taught to do tricks. But it is a little hard to get one that you can both cage and walk. I would suggest a cat- but cats and cages don't mix very well.
If you can find them from a reliable place, a ferret (neuterred and defumed!) can be good. But you've got to take care of them. Like other small creatures, ferrets do not like to be neglected.
Before you decide on any pet, you should think about how much time you're willing to spend with them. Otherwise, you might be better off saving your money until you can decide on something you won't be sorry for.

A ferret MIGHT be a good choice. A Rat also for the same reason. They are VERY smart and can be trained and put on a leash although there is not guarantee they they cannot escape it. They both stink however even if you have a ferret fixed and it's scent glands removed. They will still stink no matter how much you bathe them or what you feed them. I would go with a Rat. If it dies you won't be out $150-250.

Most of the things you mention really point to a dog. Sorry you can't have one. Most smaller pets can't really walk on a leash; they're too small or too slow. You can walk a bunny, or a very large guinea pig (but it wouldn't be much fun to do so, neither of them can really go at your pace). But you can't really train them to do many tricks. You can train a ferret to walk on leash (with a special harness), and they can learn to do some tricks, but many Moms are resisitant to ferrets, they can smell pretty bad if their glands aren't removed, or if you don't keep up the cage daily, plus they cost about $100 or so. I think probably a dwarf bunny would be nice, they can be litter box trained, so can roam your room when you're at home, they can learn to like individuals if you are kind to them, and they are cute. You couldn't take it on long walks, but you could walk it around the yard or in a park (if you carry it there!).

I recommend a pet rat. They are really smart and clean. Don't get a mouse, they smell up their cages really quickly. Rats are social though so I have heard to get two. I had one and it seemed happy though. When I did homework outside I'd take it with me and it'd crawl all over the front lawn and come when I called it when I got done. They are very smart. My rat was also potty trained it only peed/pooed in the cage. I don't know if any rodents are truly good on a walk.

I have to agree with the cincilla thing, I had one all you ahve to do is buy a chest harnest for it and yes you may walk it, It is caged and very cute, You cant bathe them in the tub thou... To keep them clean you have to buy a special Powder at the Pet store and a running ball for them to run around in the house in, The powder Cleans thier Fur and Keeps them from getting flea's, They like Nuts and Dried Fruit,They kinda look like a furry picachu without the facial expressions from the cartoon, but if you make them mad they can be mean so dont let anyone abuse it or squeeze it. They do need Exercise so Walking them is the Best thing for them. thet are grey or brown and sometimes grey and brown. They are very cute and like attentiona and defiently like to be cuddled. So if thats what you are looking for that would be the best pet. They range in prices but I think the cheepest one I have found is 300 dollars.
But if your looking for something easy to manage and Take care of that likes to walk and you can walk it on a leash, A iguana is easier to handle. Get one about 1/2 grown big enough to walk but you enough to still train. They need a cage (I didnt keep mine in a cage but they can have a cage) A heating lamp (not a heating rock yes people tell you to use a heating rock but the only thing is they dont always realize when they get too hott on thier stomache and their smoache will swell. So it is always best to have a heating Lamp) Also for them get a Harnest that goes around thier bodies they love to walk, and leash, They eat Roman Lettuce, Fruits (Banana's and other fruits with no citric acids) and other Green Vegtables like brocolli, there is a special powder at the pet store that u must buy to put ontop of thier foods to strenghten thier bones so thier tail and legs and spikes dont break. and of course a water dish. That is pretty much it.
I hope these help you.

i know this sound wierd but....
GET A RAT!
I have two they are sooo cute and the best pet you could ever have. I also have dogs, a cat, snakes, hamsters, fish, a rabbit but the rats are the best. The sit on your shoulder, give you kisses, and are super smart so you can train them to do tricks. My one rat torri i taught to jump threw a hoop and come when she's called. You'll never need to get another pet to satisfy you when you have a rat. They act like a mixture of a dog and a bird!

I suggest getting a little brother or sister, you can do all of those things and it won't cost you a penny. Failing that perhaps a cat, some cats can be trained to walk on leashes, my siamese did. He didn't like it at first but got used to it. but use a halter, instead of a collar leash. Good Luck.

A Chinchilla. They're super cute and relatively smart and easy to care for. They're cage mammals. I don't think you can walk it though, but you can carry it AND walk and if you're really smart, chew gum at the same time. :)
