There is good argument for either Garvey or Gwynn.... BUT....

Steve Garvey's best days was when he was a Dodger and was part of the best infield in baseball at the time. He was a good player when he went to the Padres, but not a great player. He was counting the days to his retirement.

Tony Gwynn was in his prime in 1984 and got even better with age. Personally, I think Gwynn was the better player overall let alone in 1984.
