I've looked this up before -- but don't have the source right now.

Males make up slightly more than half the live births. However, there are slightly more females than males living. There are two related reasons for this. Male babies are more likely to die as infants. Given that they don't die as infants, women still tend to live longer than men.

I do have a source for the USA. According to the US Census, there are 138MM males n the US and 143MM females in the US.

In every five year age group up until age 35, there are more males than females. From age 35 on, there are more females in each group.
