Would your opinion change if you had a loved one over there? My dad will be going a second time, and frankly, I don't see why he has to go again. He already did his part and I think Bush sending troops over there while more are dying each day is stupid. People might say that I don't know why they're over there and why the war is happening, and I don't really know.

He should pick himself up and try to defend this country he's trying to 'help'. Why doesn't he go over there and risk his life? I used to like Bush until he made all these decisions that he actually thought were good for this country. It's not like he couldn't go, maybe he should just go there himself, it's probably much easier on all these families that have family or friends deploying.

Your question should really be addressed to your father. He's a good man.

I've been there. We should be there.

Ask any honest Iraqi. (I did) They'll tell you how they lived in fear for their live from their government, their police, and their border countries. Something you probably have never had to endure, so probably can't appreciate the weight of the fear or the dispair in their lives. They're now realizing that they have a shot.

While the war does serve American political interests, that's of secondary importance to me. I'll fight any day of the week to stop the hell that the Iraqi's were going through.

It is more of an invasion to secure the oil and it is totally wrong to involve other countries like mine. All America is doing is creating more hatred within Iraq for themselves. I'm not sure if your news service over there shows all of the things that the Americans have done to innocent Iraqi people. This creates hate amongst the people of Iraq. Then when the Iraqi's retaliate using this hate and previous atrocities as a basis for the attack, the Americans hate the Iraqi's more. Your military should take a leaf out of the Australian Army's book and work on their relationships with the people. Positive relationships are what encourage people to listen to you...not force. I agree that this is Vietnam all over again. My father is a Vietnam vet and I have been told countless stories of the American soldiers stupidity and atrocities by him. It doesn't seem that anything has changed.
I don't have anyone over there and I hope you do all that you can to stop your father from going, quite simply for his own mental health. My father did 2 tours of Vietnam as he was an enlisted soldier. I wish your family all the luck in the world to help your dad stay home.

I am against any type of killing, war or no war. When will the war stop in Iraq? How many more lives must be destroyed? I hear so may opinions about the war.Is it about control over oil? Is Bush's fighting a war for his father? We will never know the truth.I agree with you, why must your father go a second time when he has served his country already. Just keep your dad in your prayers constantly that he will return home well & safely to his family.

One of the ways to describe why the United States of America is in Iraq, you have to listen to a quote by Simon Wiesenthal (1908-2005) who is a survivor of the Holocaust and was a Human Rights Activist who once said "The allies do not seek to conquer Iraq but rather Iraq but rather to confront a dictator who has used weapons of mass destruction and committed genocide against his own people. Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933, but for six years the world did not act. Has he been taken seriously then, the lives of innocent millions may have been spared." Wiesenthal believes that if Hitler was taken seriously, World War II may have never had happen and I believe that if the Second World War never had happen, the history of the World would have been altered forever.

Well this may be a hard thing to hear but it's fact. Our troops have chosen to be soldiers, they are not in the military just to collect a paycheck. Their job is to go where they are asked to go, and risk their lives. We do not have a draft and the people who are over there choose to be there. I don't know if going to war in Iraq was the right thing to do or not, but now the mess is made and we would be irresponsible to pull out now and leave that country in chaos, it would just become a nation ruled by terrorist.

I think the war is dead wrong!! If George Bush wants people to fight over there then he and his wife and the rest of their family should carry themselves over there and do the job themselves!! Why should Americans go into a country where they are not wanted and fight for a government the people of that country don't want? Our government needs to quit trying to shove democracy down the throats of other countries. Their form of government is none of our business.
Imagine if another country looked at us and decided that our president was a horrible dictator and that they needed to "save" us from him. They invaded our land, attacked every republican they could find because they would be considered supporters of his "regime". They kept sending more and more troops to fight us. The rest of us take up arms to defend our land and we are called insurgents and also become the enemy. Then this other country creates a mock election and we go along with it hoping to save what's left of our way of life. They create their style of government for us, not what we are accustom to or what we want. But its still not enough. They keep sending more troops and killing more of our citizens in the name of "freedom". This is exactly what we are doing in Iraq and it's wrong!

There isn't a war in Iraq. Just because we've lost more soldiers during our peacekeeping mission than during the actual war is just an oops. Seriously even Japan is smart enough to pull out troops and say enough is enough. The fact is Bush has nothing to lose so he's gonna stay in Iraq until he accomplishes whatever the hell it is he's trying to accomplish. I would just like to know what the real "mission" is.

I think the war at this point is wrong. We went in for the wrong reasons. But, I support men like your father. He is a true American hero. Not George Bush or the other phony politicians. I am so sorry that your Dad has to go back. It sounds like he has done part over there. I hope he returns to you and your family safe and sound. God Bless.

We fight for our Kings and we die. We all agree ww1 was pretty stupid - And ww2 could have been avoided if we'd reacted faster.Thats what the US has jumped on but why you are at war - I don't know I do know that most sodiers go knowing and come back not having a clue what it was all about. Sad -

My gandfather fought the first war and said war is no good - it isn't it's ussually just to make the arms dealers rich -

Lord Alfred Tenison wrote a poem called the charge of the light brigade - They were slaughtered because of a really stupid order to advance. One of the lines is "Our is not to reason why ours is but to do and die"

Beg your father to uphold the constitution of the United States of America and refuse to participate in this illegal war. He may face going to the brig, but it would be the right thing to do. It is an illegal war and it does violate international laws. George W.Bush and company should be indicted on acts of treason by the citizens of this country. He should be held at the Hague for war crimes. I feel for you and your family, and I am so sorry that your father is caught up in this mess. I do not feel as if any foot solider should be held responsible for anything they do to survive in Iraq. I do believe the joint chief of staffs, the head of the department of defense and the entire Bush cabinet should be held accountable and responsible for every thing that happens in Iraq. I will be praying for your father as I pray for all the soldiers who are force to go to Bush's war.
