it doesn't matter if the acuras junk but looks nice & the pontiac is junk but runs great it doesn't much matter on the cost if you lose whatever you're willing to devote to it so get the car checked out. find out if the maintenance has been kept up......why? if it hasn't you will breakdown soon & that's no fun.
how? take it to a certified autoshop & get a pre-purchase inspection. if a car leaks anything or is overdue on something very important the time to find out is before you buy? acuras are a better outfit to get into unless that acura is junk. maintenance is very important & if the timing belt breaks it doesn't matter if the car is $500.00 or $50,000 you will lose it & your wallet because these motors are the interference type. which means you will be buying a new motor or another acura if it breaks because maintenace has not been done & remember you can't return it, there's no warranty on parts that are designed to be changed by the owner......which could be every 60k or 90k miles... so do your homework & enjoy the acuras because they are great solid motors & cars especially if they've been kept up & the resale value will maintain a high cost. but mileage is key & so is overall car health.

An Acura is essentially an overpriced Honda. I personally don't really like either, but if you are going to pick one, buy a high end Honda...they are virtually the same and the Honda version is cheaper to buy, repair, and insure.
Percentage wise, I think resale value is roughly equal. I'm not sure about the "breaking down" part, but the Acura will definitely cost more to repair.
Hope this helped.

in case you don't know, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, etc don't exist in Japan. Only their original names, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc. So any Acura will have the same reliability as Honda. Most of those higher end companies are just a marketing method to make people think they are getting more. Also, the "higher end" name usually has more standard options and luxury.

Acura's are awesome. Very reliable and more luxurious than Honda. My mom has had 6 Acura's in a row and has never had problems. RSX, TSX, TL, all good.
Oh yeah, pretty good re-sale value too.
