Can anyone who lives in this area tell me what it's like? Middle Class? industrial district? Is it predominantly one race or is it a mix? I live in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural metropolis and prefer diversity, what in this area would compare or contrast to that?

The city of Durham isn't exactly a nice place to be. However...The suburbs between Raleigh and Durham, and between Durham and Chapel Hill are very nice. Multi ethnic, mostly upper middle income bracket, say low six figure incomes. I forget the percentage, but it's well over 70% of the adult population in that region have an undergraduate degree, or above. I guess because the of the Research Triangle Park, not to mention 3 major universities in NCSU, UNC, and Duke, all in a 25 mile radius. It's a very artsy region. Big on exploring the different cultures of the people that live there. And all in all, it's a VERY nice place to live. But like any other major metropolitan area, there are places you don't want to go to.

I live in between durham and raleigh, and I never go to durham because of the crime. I definately wouldn't go there at night. The south side of durham has a couple of nice areas. not sure exactley where 27701 is.
