you can apply up until the child turns 18. the sooner the better so you can start receiving what you are owed. if he doesn't pay, the amount keeps building up and he ends up oweing u more!!! plus if he gets behind, you get all the arrearages. keep all receipts u pay for the kid, medical, school, anything to show what u are paying for the kid. then turn them into the child support dept. if u are receiving any assistance (food stamps, medical) they should automatically make him pay his share.
