'Gone with the Wind' is one my favorite books! It was written by Margaret Mitchell in 1936. There are a lot of stereotypes in this book and some 'exaggerations of truth.' By that I mean, the number of plantations in the south and the plot line.
It was interesting for me to read about the Civil War from a southern point of view.
However, I loved the characters! Scarlett is a strong female protagonist and she is a pain the neck! But, she gets what she wants and pays for her actions. (marriages and unrequited love)
Read it and enjoy it! (The movie is fairly close to the book.)
If you don't like it, you don't have to finish it. Life is too short to read a book you don't like.

The beginning is a bit rough... but keep reading, it is well worth the rewards! The movie is good, but it leaves out several things, such as Scarlet having more kids than just Bonnie Blue Butler.
There are a lot of stereotypes and exaggerated truths, like one of the other answerers said, but it is an image that many southerners hold dear (I am one of them) about the past of their heritage. I know my mother's family owned slaves in those years, and I would like to think that there were slaves so important to the family as Mammy was to the O'Hara family.
I love Scarlett... she's just the epitome of a powerful woman who knows what she wants and will stop at nothing to get it. But my favorite characters are Rhett and Melly. Melly is the epitome of a southern lady, and gods above, do I wish I was thought of in such high manners. And Rhett is just such an amazing man.
I loved the book sequel, and would love to see more about Cat, but I do not think I could write well enough to do justice to Rhett or Scarlett. The movie sequel wasn't that great, in my opinion. I just didn't see Timothy Dalton as a good Rhett. But Sean Bean was great as the lord... which I can't remember his name at the moment. Shame on me...
Anyway, keep reading on... and enjoy a beautiful piece of southern fiction!

Once you get past the beginning and Scarlett "grows up", it gets pretty good. There is alot more stuff than in the movie, though, so sometimes it can be hard to keep track of the characters. Once I got into it, it was hard to put down.

i'm afraid it truly is not basically your college that may not enable it, the criminal equipment and maximum of society are vehemently damaging to fourteen(?) year olds relationship 28 year olds. I understand people enter the coaching occupation with the aid of fact they like infants, yet he could be risking each and every thing, his occupation and his freedom, have been you 2 to have interplay in something previous flirting, and that i think of he's already crossed this line by making use of looking inner maximum time on my own with you. you could end thinking and be certain he's probable head over heels in love with you and desperately puzzled approximately what to do, cowardly hectic of your rejection and with a bit of luck particularly worried pertaining to to the end results of any irrelevant habit. the shown fact that he seems to have observed you with the aid of your years in college basically approximately makes me suspect this question is pretend, so do no longer think of me naive if that's some sort of humorous tale. I propose, considering the fact that he does not seem to have his act at the same time, attempting as much as now a 14 year previous, you be the bigger individual, come across a boy your guy or woman age, and flow away him to handle his problems on his very own, it truly is in no way your duty. the main suitable available state of affairs right that's you come across a clean chum, the worst is you attempt to kiss him and he finally ends up captivated with you, and while people locate out he finally leads to reformatory and you will nonetheless ought to locate a clean chum, so in case you care approximately him in any respect, flow away him on my own, now.

I haven't read it, but my sister and my girlfriend have, and they both loved it. They said it was interesting, with lots of good, flowing dialog. Easy read, too, if a bit long. I recommend it.
