This normally occurs when switching accounts. I will open my account, but when a sibling opens his/her Internet Explorer, it won't open. I use a Dell Dimension 3000 w/ Windows XP. I have run virus scans w/ AVG and McAfee. Also, my computer is unreasonably slow. I have deleted "Temporary Internet Files", removed unwanted programs and their registries, and ran a disk defragmenter and cleanup. Thirdly, my fan is occasionally louder than normal. I have changed it and blown it out using an air compressor. How do I reduce the noise?

Go to Start Menu, click RUN.
Type msconfig and hit enter.
You should see a pop up box.
Go to Startup tab and uncheck all the programs that you do not want on your start up.
This will prevent those programs from starting up when you restart windows.
This will usually make your computer go a little faster if you have do not have much memory on your computer.
You do not want a bunch of things running in your background during startup if it is not necessary.

You might want to change your fan. You can get some cheap ones at http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.com

Just get a new fan to replace the old one unless you just want to purchase a new computer.

If you want a smooth computer to go faster, then you might want to buy more RAMS for your PC. RAMS will allow you open as many programs as you want all at once and it will launch your programs faster. Go to control panel and then SYSTEMS and under the general tab will tell you how much RAM you have. If you only have 128MB or 256MB, its time for an upgrade. Get about 512MB to 1GIG...its very simple to install.

If you have problems, just let me know.

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C

First open CCleaner
Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.
To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:
Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.
Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.
afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.
The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.
If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)
The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).
Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.
Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.
