$1700 is actually pretty cheap for a horse. Especially for a nine year old. I'd have a vet check him over before you buy him though...the owners may be selling him cheap because there's something wrong with him (something that would be hard to spot).

Good price. It can get pretty expensive AFTER buying the horse, so make your first expense a check up, BEFORE purchasing the horse. Test drive the horse - get on him and ride him. Ask if you can take him home for a week... Many people that are selling a good horse will let you return the horse if it's just not a good match after a short trial.

Lots of luck! Don't fall in love with him until you get him checked out. What a heart - breaker that would / could be.

$1700 is suprisingly - worryingly - cheap for a well-behaved, middle-aged Tennessee Walking Horse. Although there are a few reasonably priced, sound, healthy, sane horses out there, they're few and far between. Make sure you have a pre-purchase vet examination done on any horse you consider buying. These cost about $100 - expensive, yes, but think of the expense and heartbreak you may well face if you buy a chronically lame horse.

Depending on where u live i think its too much to pay. I paid 1500 for my quarter horse gelding and he is trained very well. He is only 6 and he is a finished heeling horse. And is great with kids my 3 yr old rides him all the time.

No way! I paid about 5 times that for my horse. You can't find a good horse for much cheaper (unless you get it from a rescue). A lot of horses cost at least $10,000 and some show horses can cost 50,000 or more! So I think you found a great deal, especially if its a nice horse! : )

It's a very good price- but still expensive for you,
so I'd get a vet check, just to be sure he's sound.
Great older kid-safe horses are sometimes cheaper
because they can't work as hard as they used to,
but this horse isn't old...

You can find former race horses at auction and get them for a mere couple hundred dollars AND save them from becoming dog food. Meat suppliers to dog food companies are the #1 bidders at the auctions. Save money, save a life. Race horses are also well trained...These just weren't fast enough to win.

Do you think it is expensive. For my budget that is too expensive. It would also depend on the training, breed, and quality of the horse. I got mine for 400 hundred and she is trained for beginners and has no vices (except for stopping on cue). But it is not how much money you pay for the horse. It is what you got for your money. If you think you didn't pay too much for him then you probably didn't.

Well you definetely could get a horse cheaper. But you said his training is really good so 1700 is not expensive at all. GO FOR IT!

No way-- it sounds like you've found a great horse! Not a superstar, but a nice, safe horse, which is worth his weight in gold!
