These people aren't very helpful are they?

I suffer from the same problem. I am seeing a therapist for OCD and we have just begun to breech the subject of my "need to shop". Its a need that is filling a void and I've known that, I'm just not so sure what that "void" is yet. You have to figure yours out, and then find something positive to fill it with. I have considered doing some volunteer work, but it won't be much. I can get my shopping fix in about two hours, and my whole family benefits, for the moment. :(

Its a struggle girlfriend, but you've gotta get help.

That's something everyone does, I try to make myself aware that the reason I'm spending money is because I'm sad, board or what ever and if you do spend money don't give it away on things that are not useful, buy something that you wanted for a long time but never bought it because you thought it was a waste of money, or you forget when your sad and buy something else, I mean " you see this item at the store and say, I surely would like to have it, but never have the nerve to buy it, for whatever reason". If you have to spend the money when your sad, buy that Item.

Replace shopping with another behavior. Go to the beach or the park and take a walk with your friends. Play a game or paint a picture. Volunteer to help someone else - feed the homeless at a shelter, teach kids or adults how to read, deliver meals to shut-ins. Get a job that is really satisfying doing something you love.

If you love to shop and can't stop, try going around the store. Try things on and put them in your cart. Then just don't buy them. The next day, if you can't even remember what you picked out then your really didn't need it!

Ask your parents to put your money in a bank or put the money in the bank yourself.

It's still gonna be there. Trust me. Just stop spending money for the time being and try to find some fun things to do with friends.

Well.

Say to yourself 'Is this really a good way to be happy? Spend money?'

And tell your parents to hide your cash for at least 3 weeks and see what you can do without $.

Good Luck.

Shopping can be an addiction just like alcholism and overeating. I read recently that you cannot break a habit, you have to replace a habit...so find a new hobby.
