1. First I would ask myself if I would like to play in human oral cavity. This is your first test.
2. May be you like playing a doctor now, but would you be good at being a doctor? You would have to attend to their needs when they needed not when you feel like it.
3. Ready for a few years of premed and then for a few more in a school of dentistry.
4. If you choose, for the sake of your future patients, I hope you have small hands :).
Whatever profession you’ll decide to choose you better know that you are going to like it. Money is important however it should be a second to liking your job on the list considerations.
Just a voice of experience, I know a lot of people who went for accounting and ended up as brain surgeons, very good brain surgeons.
Just have fun and explore.

If you are going to be a dentist, you have to be able to look in some nasty mouths and not puke. Personally I cannot manage that. I imagine bad breath or excessive plaque would gross me out. So dentistry would never be for me. Here are some other qualities that I think would help you be the best dentist in the area:
- small hands
- good eyesight (to see far inside without the help of glasses
- can bend over for long periods of time
- like teeth
- not easily grossed out
- have alot of insurance
- have a DDS degree (Doctor of Dental Surgery)
- have good teeth yourself (no cavities ever is a plus, for bragging rights)

dentists are well paid, and it is a good career, alot of states need more dentists. you have to be compassionate and also caring. that dude is right that alot of dentists do end up hating their jobs, the suicide rate for dentists was very high several years ago due to the amount of pain that is often inflicted.

dentistry. One of the highest paying jobs, yet it does have teh highest suicide rate...
so qualities would be, ability to pinpoint things with a fast moving drill... but then again, i guess it gets depressing looking at horrible teeth all the time. so a good shot would be a plus. *eyeshift*
