Why do gay men "cruise" around in parks, bathrooms, truck stops, gyms and other public places...aren't they worried about the risk of getting caught and the risk of diseases from having sex with stranger's? You never hear of straight people crusing for sex in places like these...

there are two types of gay men.
1. Out gay men -- about 5% of all males admit to being gay. In my experience, while some of them may cruise and ****, most of them form relationships; my partner and I are out, we've been together almost 15 years and we know other gay couples, some of which have been together as much as 45 years.
2. Closeted gay men -- these are men who do not tell large numbers of people that they are gay. Mostly they hide. To them anonymous sex is very valuable. Not only does it allow them to have sex without a relationship, thus helping them hide their sexuality -- but also it lets them not deal with the guilt than in many cases remains from early religious training and is often one of the things keeping them closeted.
And note, in 1992, when Jonathan and I had our first summer together, running through the brush in Central Park in NYC (we were younger then) at great speed, we had to jump over a straight couple having sex between two bushes on the hill across from the castle.
When I was still a teen and managing an arcade, I had to ask a guy and his girlfriend to stop having sex on top of a pinball machine.
Sex goes on in cars, the woods, laundrymats and obviously, arcades.
I don't buy that its all that much different.
The difference is that people don't talk about it.

Some gay men cruise because they are more promiscuous than the rest of the population. And yes I have seen many straight people cruise mostly teenagers. You see after they get married people don't tend to cruise anymore I know my wife wouldn't like it. But since the homophobic culture we live in seems hell bent on denying us the right to marry we are out there cruising a lot more than most. Also if you think about it there are a lot less places for gay guys to find each other than there are for straight people I mean do you want us to go to church to meet people. Guys on the whole are a lot more promiscuous than women so if you remove the woman from the equations you have a lot more promiscuity. Now granted I am not saying all gay men are like this but the ones you see are the only ones you see the rest are at home with their mates.

I'm not entirely sure whether or not this is as easily answered in the US as in other countries (because I, even though I'm gay, have never cruised), but I'd invite anyone who has the chance to visit Paris to wander around the Bois de Bologne and see all of the prostitutes. Actually, just see the Da Vinci Code. There's a scene that takes place there, and it perfectly demonstrates this.
For examples in the US, consult Hollywood Blvd., or watch just almost any documentary on prostitution. Car sex happens all the time. I don't think, "if the van's a-rockin' don't come a-knockin'" is a gay phrase.

Straight people don't get a chance to cruise for sex because most women don't entertain casual encounters. Most women only enjoy sex if its done within a relationship. Men, however, are biologically promiscuous and capable of enjoying sex outside of a relationship. This is also confirmed by the lack of a lesbian (gay women) cruising scene.
There are gay/bi guys who don't cruise around, and who don't even attend the LGBT scene.

So do straight men. Hasn't a guy ever tried to pick you up in a public place. And I think a lot more straight men would love to have sex in public places if more woman went for that kind of thing.
IMO though, exhibitionism is hot.

Gay men have the same sex drives as straight men. And since women aren't involved, we're free to do it as much as we want.

Because women are not involved. Men are men, gay or straight.
It's a woman's discernment that prevents straight men from enjoying the kind of sex that gay men do...the kind of sex that most men prefer.

U mean public as in a nightclub/bathhouse? In most of these places, Public sex is accepted. I hang out there, caus for me, it's a turn on when I've got a public audience watchin .
