Yep. The penis has it's own brain. Show us some boobs or a nice booty and away it goes. Though, I am older now and have better control, so that doesn't happen so much anymore. Pretty much only my fiance does that to me anymore. Actually just hearing her voice...

The answer to your original question is of course 'Yes'. It is possible to be hard, looking at a girl, and not feel lust. As some have mentioned, a man can become hard at temperature changes, visual stimuli, or something as simple as standing up. Blood pressure changes of any kind can trigger these reactions. However, it's not very likely that your guy would have one of these incidental erections while looking at a girl. He was probably feeling some degree of lust.
The question you should be asking is: Can you trust him to feel excitement about someone or something else and not act on it?
Guys can also lust after a girl without getting hard. How many times a day does a guy look at a girl, totally undress her with his mind, and maybe even round the bases in his imagination, and you have no idea?
The point being- guys will fantasize, period. You can't stop that. Is he still going home with you? Are his flirtations and his attentions reserved solely for you? If not, then maybe your relationship has some other problems. If yes, then don't worry about it.
And in any case, have some fun with it anyway. Make him stand up and move around quickly if you notice him 'becoming uncomfortable'. Ask him to pick something up for you, or to do something that makes him raise his arms above his head. Make him squirm a little. :)

That's a very fine line. There are times when a guys body can impose itself regardless if they're thinking about sex or looking at girls. At that point it's not lust but where they take it can lead to that.
It's tough being a hormonal driven teen cause soemtimes the body just takes over. Sometimes it can cause temptations of lust, other times it's frustrating because it's gets in the way...literally and figuratively.
It sounds like your guy friend is playing with fire. There's a point of admiration then it quickly shifts to desire and lust. Sure he can be turned on by a porn star but that doesn't mean that he wants to bring her home to meet his mom. He still desires the physical and is basically saying I find this person more attractive then the one he's with.
God made women beautiful and in our most pure motives we can enjoy and admire this beauty, but when guys start focusing on certain features, then it quickly moves away from something pure to lusting.

He is feeding you a line of bull. Yes guys get hard all the time for no apparent reason. (It's a real pain if it happens when you need to take a piss.) If it happens while looking at a woman there is generally lust involved. It doesn't mean he wants to cheat with the woman, or is even imagining sleeping with her. (There are a lot of woman I've know that I've loathed, but they still turned me on.) All it means is he's attracted to the woman. This is called being a heterosexual guy.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. First off, you get an erection because your AROUSED, that means LUST. HORNEY, ROCK HARD FOR ACTION.
He's just trying to soften you up till the time is right. Or maybe your trying to rationalize to get a peice of him. After all, doesn't he look attractive because he has what you don't?

Yes and no. If he's looking a girls body, he wants her. On the other hand, the thing has a mind of it's own and sometimes it's just hard for no reason at all.

Your friend is full of it and he's pulling a big line of double talk. There is no way a guy could get turned on by a woman and not want her. But hey, we guys like to look and get turned on...EVEN when in a relationship. He should just be honest.

He could be looking at her body & thinking about what he's gonna do to you later -- a man can get a hard on if the wind blows depending on his age, I'd say if you're his girl -- take advantage of it!!! Who care's why he's got the hard on, if it's you that's receiving the pleasure from it then it's all goooood!

In a word. NO! There must be desire in the mind / lust as you might say. unless a guy is going through puberty. Then there's no control at all and it'll happen whenever it feels like it.

Yes, it is very possible for a man to be aroused without any feelings of lust. Many phycologists believe that due to our (male) nature we tend to be aroused more by visual things rather than emotional feeling like females. If a male is to see something visually and sexually pleasing he is most likely to become aroused. If it were a female there is also the same chance for arousal but for most women (from a psychology standpoint) would prefer to be aroused emotionally first.
