Venus is closer to the Earth than Mars is.

Technically? Mercury is currently the closest to Earth.

However, if you're asking what planet comes closest to Earth.. the second closest is Mars. This happens about for about three or four months every martian year.

A martian year is 24 months long. Jan - Dec., then Tujan - Tudec. Every month has 26 days. A standard year is 669 days. This represents one revolution of Mars around the Sun.

Venus gets the closest to Earth. VERY close! It takes 243 earth days to complete one day in Venus. Venus is also only one of the two planets that rotate in the opposite direction.

However, technically, at this given time, Mercury is the closest to Earth.

It depends on the position of the planets in the solar system. If Venus and Mars are both on the far side of the sun from Earth, then the answer is actually Mercury. Venus and Mars can also be the closest planet as well. Jupiter and the other outer planets will always be too far away to be the closest. (That is, the closest that Jupiter can get to Earth will always be farther than the farthest the inner planets can be from Earth.)

Hope that helps.

It depends venus's orbit is closest, but if earth is on the same side of the sun and venus is on the far side, then mars becomes the closest planet.

Venus is the closest planet to earth. That is why it's light is bigger and brighter in the night sky. Planets show up larger than the other stars...

Mars has a red color, while Venus is a bright white.

The moon is not a "planet" it is a satellite.
