Rogers Hornsby was a really great player that was also a manager, while he played. In that time he led his team to the "World" Series twice. Winning one in 1926. He also won two triple crowns and MVPs.

Add to the above answers Lou Boudreau (shortstop-manager) of the Cleveland Indians, Casey Stengel (outstanding player for the Dodgers and Giants, and not too shabby as a manager with the Yankees), and Bucky Harris, a "Boy Wonder" of sorts with Washington and other teams. John McGraw was a pretty sneaky - and skilled - player long before he managed the Giants.

Joe Torre was a borderline Hall of Famer as a player. He won an MVP, and now he has 4 WS titles and 6 pennants as a manager. Thats pretty good.

Nope, I think Babe Ruth would answer that for you. If I'm not mistaken, he was a player/manager with the Braves.
