yawing does not mean one is tired in reality it means the brain is receiving a huge amount of oxygen which is good and when one yawns it emits a type of pheromone that gets emitted thus in a car one person yawns the others will follow

Some believe it's cause by tiredness and a lack of oxygen. Supposedly it is to help the body obtain more oxygen. It may appear contagious if you're sitting in the same room with a low level of Oxygen and everyone starts yawning.

Our ancestors, used yawning to signal time for bed or as a signal for us to change activities. Humans have been yawning for possibly as long as they have existed, maybe it serves some healthful purpose. It does cause us to draw in more air and our hearts to race faster than normal, but so does exercise. Yawning is not limited to man. Cats, dogs, even fish yawn, which leads me back to the idea that yawning is some form of communication.

yawning is the reaction your body makes when you are very tired and you are about to fall asleep. Yawning draws in a large amout of oxygen which is directed strait to the brain to awaken you.
