Walcott may be the best thing since sliced bread. But if the Swede won't play him in a game that England, at worst, only needed to draw what the hell was the point of taking him to Germany in the first place??

Hi there.
That is such a good point. They say at 17 he was bought along for the experience factor, but how the heck is he going to get experience on the bench. The only experience he is getting is what the spectators are. If they were not going to play him they should have given the position to a more experienced player that was able to participate, left him home this time and not built his hopes up. He is obviously a talented boy so why not give him a shot. If he can't handle the pace or competition, sub him like you would any other player that was not performing on the day. The poor kid must have a million thoughts and doubts going through his head. I'm an Aussie and was really looking forward to seeing what he was like in the big league. I was excited for him, now I feel let down for him. To me you don't play a player that is a risk or cannot do the job, if that's what the management believe, why did they take him indeed?

I totally agree, me and my Dad were having a right good moan about this. What the hell IS the point of bringing someone he isn't going to use? He has used every player apart from one midfielder and the two goalkeepers. He HAS to play Walcott at some point.

It isn't really fair on Walcott either, like against Paraguay when he took Owen off and moved Joe Cole forward, Walcott was probably thinking "Why ain't he put me there? I'm a forward, why's he putting a midfielder there?" I think the team should mutiny. :DD

And Crouch! What in God's name does he need to lean on another players shoulder to jump for a header?! He's 6"7 or something like that! He should have left two other players that we don't really need and brought Defoe and Darren Bent, who was the top English scorer in the Premiership. Sven, you need a kick up the ****.

And I know Shaun Wright-Phillips didn't get that many games at Chelsea, but he got more than Walcott did at Arsenal. Sven said the reason why he didn't bring Wright-Phillips was because "he didn't play enough games at Chelsea," when he hasn't even seen Walcott play once! Not even when he was at Southampton.

OK, I'll shush now.

Couldn't agree more. Us Scots haven't stopped laughing since the day he was selected.

But on a serious note, how must strikers like Jermaine Defoe, Darren Bent, Dean Ashton and even James Beattie feel? This is the footballing equivalent of sticking two fingers in their faces.

Walcott wouln't get in the Scotland squad right now - shame for Sven that none of McFadden, Miller, Boyd, Maloney, O'Connor, Riordan etc have an English granny eh?

Exactly my sentiments. The only reason i can think of for sven not to play theo is because he doesnt think he's ready. In which case why the hell is he in germany?!! Ok so bringing gerrard on worked out this time, but christ, i've always said, if hes not going to get minutes against paraguay or trini and tobago what chance does he stand in the latter rounds against brazil and argentina?? Look at our strike force We've got 2 recoverers (well 1 now owens out again) 1 whos apparently not ready, and one whos just plain rubbish!! Why the hell isnt defoe there? Seriously, who would you rather have in hte box? crouch or defoe? Definately defoe for me. Crouch, look at him, just because hes tall doesnt make him good in the air. He hasnt got the physical presence to hold off defenders so he can head the ball properly. and heading is his strength, which he is poor at!! eg agianst trini when he miss cued that sitter on the 6 yard box. Have defoe or even walcott on the end of that and its in the back of the net.

He shouldn't be there. End of story.

BUT while he is there, I think Sven should have bought him on for the last ten minutes. Just to give him a taster.

Ecuador have a good side (even though the Germans did them) and we are gonna have to raise the bar big time if we want to carry on.

Oh and Lampard needs a slap. He's played w*nk the last two games and eveyones starting to lose Patience.

Sven should have taken Jamie Carragher off and put Theo Walcott on!

Maybe my predicted result of 3-1 to England would have been correct :-)

Your first answer is spot on!

We have a very over looked and experienced... talented, versatile midfielder in KEVIN NOLAN, Bolton Wanderers.

European experience and goals... Team Captain...

Pacey and strong... not scared of big occasions!

12 goals bagged from midfield!!!

Sorry in my book Sven might as well have been managing the swedish side tonight, and since the selection process started... what a bodged job!

Thank You Germany for finishing top of your group... coz on tonights performance you will thump us 3-0!

I think Sven only brought him along to try and disprove the theory that he is a boring manager who likes to play it safe. By bringing along a relative unknown, he makes himself look like a 'daring' man who will take a risk.

Of course he won't play him really. If he won't put him against the teams at the initial stages, then he is hardly likely to risk it later on in the tournament!

Exactly.
He'd rather play a 5 man midfield than bring him on.
What a waste. It was the perfect opportunity when Owen went off - can't see when he'll play now. Just ridiculous.

For the experience I guess and to guide him slowly into the top flight, I still think he should have stayed in the under 21 squad and built up his experience and training there.
