Laziness...maybe they need to say something because silence is awkward...possibly they really don't pay attention to detail...

They already know the answer to that particular question. Their curiosity for other opinions, especially the ones in agreement are the ones that they seek.
The funny thing is, when they get an answer that complements their wisdom, intelligence, or knowledge then they vote is as best. Not all of the time, but most of the time.

I just might be talking from experience. he..he..

well everyone is on a different level of what is or should be considered self explanatory or easy however you want to say it. so something that is so easy for one person to figure out can be hard for another person to figure out no matter how easy it is for you. and if all the answers are right there, then we would not need to write and ask for peoples opinion, and sometimes we know things but want other opinions. so why would you ask this question it sounds like you are saposed to be a smart person to realize that alot of people are dumb as you put it. but what i see is that you are the same as them, i mean what is with your stupid question? obviously people want to know things, isnt it that simple?

Because not everybody is at the same stage of life. You are reading questions from people age 13 next to questions from someone like me, age 57. They might sound stupid to you as some of my questions migh sound strange to someone who has never lived in a Caribbean island (as I do) and for whom coconuts are as 'exotic' as Asian pears are to me. We are black, tall, young, experienced, inexperienced, from rural or coastal towns. We are neither stupid or morons, we are just different.

At least they are asking us. It would be worse if they don't and never know the answer, regardless of how basic it is.
