They claimed they had secured a warrant for arrest & showed a copy of "it" signed by a "judge", but we later learned there was never one issued. This was all part of scam with a local car dealer to get negative feedback removed about the dealership...

Relief of duty in my opinion.
If the warrant was indeed fake or false and it was carried out, then the police and judge are in violation of the the victims 4th amendment protection against illegal search and seizure. Since the warrant was fake, then that amendment has been violated.
Like I said, that is a serious crime to fake a search warrant but Im sure it is a discretionary decision by that respective jurisdiction in deciding diciplinary action against the police chief, the police who carried it out and the judge.
However, the police should only be repremanded if they knew it was fake, if they percieved that the warrant was legitimate, then they should suffer no concequence.
I must also tell you that an arrest warrant falls under the 4th amendment because it is included in the Seizure doctrine of that particular amendment.

Read the recent "Ceballos" decision fron the US Supreme Court

There, a prosecutor who questioned a warrant on the grounds that it was fraudulently obtained was demoted ...

Maybe that gives you some idea of what disciplinary action can be expected

I'm not sure what you mean by "negative feedback". Are these ebay cops? What crazy little village are you living in that you are not suing for false arrest? This story smells a little funny.

This should not be dealt with by having these police pay a fine. They should be banished from the police force. Presumably honest police should be hired in their stead.......and fired if they prove dishonest.

If they indeed had a warrant, they would have to inforce it, not talk about it.

They are guilty of several crimes and should be prosecuted for it.
