I have 10 months to plan. The wedding was in May, 1987. We like movies, parties and friends. I was thinking about a trip to the Cannes Film Festival or the Sundance Film Festival. Maybe a large party with lots of friends, renewal of vows, etc. Jewelry. Maybe some combination of some of them. We have some budget to work with, but not celebrity money!

What are your ideas?

What else would be good to consider?

Now at 13 answers I must add, I have thought about returning to the place of our first date, but not as a anniversary celebration, interesting. I am seriously considering delaying the vow renewal to 25. That helps me narrow down what I want to do.

I am still accepting answers and I'm open to new ideas too. Thank you all for helping me honor my wife and our marriage. She is really worth it!

All your ideas are GREAT! The trip to the film festival sounds intriguing. A fun trip with another couple or group of mutual friends sounds like a lot of fun.

I think I would leave the large party and renewal of vows for the 25th Anniversary.

Well, I'm probably going to go on a bizarre tangent for you. Today my wife and I celebrate our 21st anniversary. How did we celebrate the 20th? Couldn't tell you. We treat every anniversary as a normal day. There might be something special for supper but we don't go out of our way to celebrate.

Celebrating with friends and family isn't much of an option for us. We've already lost most of our parents and all of our grandparents. After 19 years of marriage, we finally started a family. I've always loved the idea of renewing vows for anniversary number 25 and 50. However, our daughter will only be 7 at our 25th.

My suggestion would be just to keep it simple. Have a card for her. Maybe make up a scrapbook of special pictures. Have a more than special dinner.

Yes, it is quite a milestone considering the way society has gone. However, I'd suggest keeping the celebration simple and just between the two most important who made this event.

Wow Man you really know how to treat a lady. i may need a few pointers.
Anywayz, i think you scored big by taking her out to Dinner and having a party but you totaly win at renewing your vows.
I think you guys should get away and spend quite a bit of time together alone but before you do that you should throw a party that way you can have everyone else see and let her see that you two are still together and that you love each other very much and will continue to be together.
I really see nothing else besides what you said except have a party first then be alone together.
Oh and Congrats on you anaversery :)

additional advice:
I thik your right, maybe you should wait to renew your vows til' your 25 but then again it's always a card you can always play 'cause that will seriously get her happy to be with you. But returning to where you guys had your first date. but i still think you should still throw a party. that you should do no matter what. all you previouse Ideas were excellent but maybe your right, you should wit a while before you renew your vows.

Get a bouquet of 20 DIFFERENT roses to represent the 20 very different but 'rosy' years you have spent together. Go on a trip or a cruise to Hawaii and redo your wedding vows at the waterfall there which is very popular for couples. Have a party with your friends just before the trip so they can share in your excitement and have the opportunity to choose gifts for you that you may be able to use for the trip.

I would definitly renew vows and go on a honey moon to a dream place you have never been to. Buy her a special necklace or ring. Throw a huge party and have fun with it!!!! Buy her a special out fit that she will love and get pics taken together of the event to treasure it forever! Buy her 20 of her favorite flowers!

How about a reaffirmation of vows at the Drive Up Elvis Wedding Chapel in LasVegas. There's nothing quite so romantic.

Go to Caans. Nothing adds tto the atmosphere that going somewhere exciting. Afterward, you guys can rent out a villa or a bed and breakfast WITHOUT CABLE, PHONE (except your cell), NOTHING. After 20 years, you guys deserve the best time together in PEACE. Congrats!

How about a fabulous cruise? You can cruise the Mediterranean or wherever you like. The captain can perform a renewal ceremony for you.
