The answer to that question would fill a thousand textbooks - and it already has! You could easily write a 30 page term paper without half trying. People have persecuted others from the moment man first walked upright. Any group that saw a chance to exploit another, usually did. On the most massive scale, the Romans conquered and enslaved many other peoples. The British Empire did the same. The Catholic Inquisitions terrorized non-Christians in Europe. Genocide has not only happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany - it happened in the United States and in South America to the tribes of Native Americans; millions died in Cambodia in the 1970's and in Africa with the Hutus and the Tutsis - and it is still happening right now in Darfur.
