A friend of my who teaches children with special needs told me about this the other day and I thought what a great idea.
It is summer. It is hot outside. Give the kids a paintbrush and a bucket of water. Yes clear water. Let them paint whatever they want to. The bricks on the side of the house, the sidewalk, your car.....anything. In just a few minutes it goes away and they can paint it again if they like. I tried it. The kids loved it!

Make up several little books for there very on scrap booking and tell the parent to bring you two pictures of the children to put in there own book or you can take the pictures you re self of the children playing in the sand as if they were pretending to go to the beach have them where big glasses and beach stuff surrounding them for your perfect picture back drop but keep it as natural as they are.or the trips to the zoo or the picnics, and the nature walks they go on it then becomes your book then make a big one for your self to show examples. the List keeps going after that and you have a great imaginative mind. it may take some time but that is the beauty of it you want things to last sometimes. and they love to play in water it is truly the best for getting the wore out and the summer fun

My grandkids LOVE making TRASH ART ! I save boxes from pop tarts, little debbies, paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, styrofoam pkg. filling, paper bags, any small box I come acoss, Dr. Pepper 12/24 pks., crackers, etc. I put construction paper, scissors, differents glues, duct tape, masking tape, rice, beans, pasta, etc. in the floor and they take turns choosing one item at a time. We do the large boxes, then smaller boxes because there can be a fight over those! Boxes are usually the base of whatever they make. Then they get creative. I may take hours sometimes for them to finish, according to age. My 7 yr old grandson made a robot from a gallon milk jug with Little Debbie long boxes for legs, plastic lids for feet, & paper towel rolls for arms. (He put beans inside of the legs to keep it from being top heavy and falling over after I suggested it.) He used a light switch plate for the power switch and a lrg flat battery was taped on back for the power source! He put a sml flashlight bulb on top of the head for when the robot got an idea! He used the jug handle to walk his robot around with since he had used the tape as hinges on the box legs and they would move back and forth? He had a great time and neighbors couldn't believe he had had such fun and made something so creative from trash. The g-kids always ask for trash art. They are ages 6-10 but also did it at 3 and up. The creations were more simple but they were pleased because they made it all by themselves! Of course I was busy cutting tape for them all and sometimes holding something until it dried but we've always had fun. Just let the imaginaltion flow. You may not recognise what they make when they are little but in their eyes they see it clearly! Always praise them for finishing the project! Have fun!

You can do rainbow chalk pictures. Take a pan of water that is wide enough to graze a piece of paper over the top. Take plastic knives and a box of different colored chalk, scrape different colors of chalk on the top of the water. Take a piece of white paper and lightly skim it over the top of the water. Flip it over and show the kids. It makes a cool rainbow-like design. Set it aside until it dries.

make a few drops of paint on a piece of paper then give the kids a straw and let them blow the paint around to create different pictures. After it dries to can make other pieces of artwork by trying to make other pictures with colored pencils or markers.

why not take them outside and color the sidewalk with chalk, do a mini-nature walk or have them (or u) take photos if u have a cheap camera around and do a project with the photos. sometimes the local library has art and crafts workshops for the kids, maybe u can take them there. have you tried working with clay? or colored sand? if their old enough, try those too.

take a coffee filter...lie it flat...make dots all around it in different colors with markers...fold the filter in half, then continue to fold it into a small triangle...with a spray bottle lightly mist it, just enough for the filter to be wet but not saturated...open it up, all of the colors will have blended together making a tie dye effect...hang them to dry and display

paint w/ hands, sponges, qtips, cookie cutter, string, marbles in a dish...let kids sprinkle salt or sugar on top for a shiny glaze...only paint on one side of paper and then make a double print by folding paper together and opening back up...outside spray painting; take paint watered down a little in a spray bottle and paint outside.
homemade playdough is a fav...measuring ingredients, mixing, and then you cook it; put it in baggies when cooled for kids to squeeze to make different colors, then give them tools like cutters, plastic knives, rollers, etc to play w/dough.
collages; outside talk a walk and look for things of certain colors or theme; flowers or seeds whatever and glue them on paper...old magazines and cut out fun pics or things that start with...or even old art projects, cut em up and make a new one...glue different things like confetti, glitter, wood shapes, foam shapes, beads, streamers (a favorite of my kids b/c they can cut diff lengths or let them hang off a plate or papers)...
textures boxes...take rice, water, sand, noodles, and put into a bin w/snakes and cups to measure...
go to a wallpaper or paint store and ask for retired books...these are great to make collages w/ or to just cut cut cut...also can color or paint on.
stamping; can find some at dollar stores...or make them from cookie cutters and potatoes or apples cut in half.
boxes are amazing! you can make block with them, shadow boxes, or really big ones can be decorated to make cars, houses etc...
make art open ended and the kids wont be bored...by that set out different supplies at a time; like coloring let them choose from markers, crayons, pencils etc, as well as coloring pages and different types of paper...to make a specific craft like a chicken set out different things in a yellow color for them to glue. let them have choices and it will be fun!
