i'm 14, i had my period for the first time after january (i went to the doctor and she said it was ok at my age). it started today.
is it normal if my period started off like dark brown and it's turning red now?

yes, it's also going to be irregular for a while so don't be alarmed if it doesn't come every month.

The average girl will get her first period around 12 years old, but this definitely varies from person to person. A Girl's First Period - The Dreaded Day
While we never know exactly when our first period is going to come, we can make the experience a little less dramatic by making sure we are prepared. This means talking to your mom or other trusted adult about what you can expect before it actually happens. You should start carrying pads around with you in advance to getting your period so that when it finally arrives, you aren't scrambling to find some. If you find yourself stuck at school without a pad or tampon, go talk to your school nurse or counselor. They will be more than willing to help you out!

Avoid wearing white or light-colored pants and underwear during the week of your period to cut down on the chance of visible leakage as well.

# While getting your first period is an exciting event, it unfortunately can come with some uncomfortable side-effects. Take a look at what you'll need to battle these symptoms head on. An adequate supply of pads and/or tampons.

I was also ten, in fact it was Friday, 2/10/84 around noon. Isn't it funny the things you remember :) The coloring you describe is very normal. It might turn brown again at the end of your period too.

That's normal, and its normal for the first year to have crazy periods - like heavier and/or lighter and longer/ shorter. You body is changing alot inside now.

Yes, its totaly normal..Mine starts off like a dark brown color..And then it gets red..Its ok..Dont worry..I started mine with i was 10!!! and i still remember it haha

yeah because i thought something was wrong with me but i found out from my doctor and parents that it is normal and the old blood from yourr last period. i started on christmas for the 1st time.

Yes that is completley normal,it happened to me, do not even worry about it. Many girls go through that same exact thing
Everything will work itself out, if you are still nervous then talk to your docotr

Yep and at the end it is sometimes dark brown too.

its completly normal. i started mine at 11 or 12...i don't remember all i remember was i was in the 6th grade. and they don't become regular for alittle bit of time. but don't freak out if you skip one.
