What's the best way to clear out my singing voice? I sing, though somewhat often, my voice isn't as clear as it should be. I have to clear my throat because it's raspy, and I can't do as many things as I want or need to because of it being raspy. Is there anything I can drink or do to clear out my voice without making it worse or damaging it?

And no, I do not smoke. I don't do any drugs, and I do not drink alcohol. Umm...I do drink dairy somewhat often, but not too often. I don't drink water all that often, only when I have the taste for it.

Tips from American Idol. They do not use any dairy for a day before they have to sing. Then they have ice cream as release after they sing. Before they sing they swallow 2 teaspoons of olive oil to lubricate throat.
To really improve your voice you need to use the foods suggested on this site for weight loss but they also remove the mucous causing the raspiness. Ideally a mostly raw vegan diet gives you a huge advantage over everyone else.

Is your voice always raspy? If so, there may not be anything you can do about it. One thing I have heard that helps is a shot of brown liquor. This works well if you are having sinus drainage. Although, one time I was auditioning for a solo in college and the guy I went up against did that. The instuctor told me after the audition that he would not get the solo because he was buzzed from the liquor! Too funny. Other ideas are just propoer singing techniques. Lift the soft pallet, make your nose and front of your face vibrate while singing (this ensures proper placement), and breathe correctly. Hope this helps some!

dont' clear your throat!!!!!!!!!! drink/ eat less dairy, sometimes that causes extra mucus, if you smoke that could contribute to raspiness, and the hot tea with lemon is another thing, when you feel like you need to clear your throat drink a sip or two of water! :) hope this helps and have fun singing!

I just got through with a singing date,. I use a little lemon juice in a bottle of water and I take a swig between songs. It taste rank, but it really works. Gargle with warm salt water before you start and sip the water as needed.

Put a humidifier in your room, keep moisture in the air... drink alot of water... Famous singers have moisture put in the venue that they are singing in....I remember when Aretha Franklin refused to sing at one of her shows because they didn't have the stage area moist enough for her.... Really....

Many singers drink ginger tea (the powdered kind in asian stores), with honey and lemon. It is a bit tart, but really does work, it's also great for colds.

Take a shot of vegetable oil. Its disgusting, but it coats the throat and your singing will improve.
