There are a number of state and local parks which have tent camping fairly close to the city. CO State Parks near Denver include Chatfield, Cherry Creek, and Golden Gate. Primitive camping is $7.00-9.00/night.

Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood has campsites for $10/night.

The third website is a directory of tent campgrounds all around the state. Click D for Denver.

Don't know about right in the city but there is a campground called Chief Hosa about 25 miles west of downtown Denver on Interstate 70. There is a Wal Mart not far from there (I think you could walk) and other businesses nearby as well. Close to Evergreen. Don't know the cost - good luck......

the answer above is the only one I know of as well. there is one way up in the mountains north-west of Golden but it is a long ways out.

If you should venture into a CO State Park let me give you a word of warning...anything that says CO State Park on it the state personnel love to give out tickets for anything they can think of. I stopped to let my sick dog out of the car at one and because I didn't pay the $5.00 fee I and my wife were each given a $25.00 ticket! I NEVER go into a CO State Park anymore! The state personnel are unfriendly and look for anything they can stick you for a fine!
