There is no way to know for sure. The average baby does it between 5 and 9 months old (see sources section below), but there are occasional early or late babies on any developmental milestone. And, just because he does one thing early doesn't mean he will do the next one early, either. Enjoy the unique person he is!!

Average time for a little one to begin sitting up on their own is 6-8 months. However, every child is unique. If your child was born prematurely there might be a set-back. In most cases this set-back is in accordance with the amount of time he/she was born early. For example, if a child is born 2 months early, there is sometimes a 2 month developmental set-back.
If your baby was not a premie, just keep in mind that everyone's brain is different and there's no exception in children! I wouldn't worry so much on how soon your baby reaches a milestone, unless it becomes a serious set-back. Just try to enjoy the first year as much as possible. Not long after sitting up will come walking and with mobility you lose some of your precious cuddle time. Good luck!!!

Your baby should start sitting on his own when he is ready! Just like walking, getting teeth, crawling and everything else. Don't expect things to happen just because everyone else's baby did, or some book tells you so. Let you baby be just that a BABY. I have an 11 month old that still has no teeth, and just learned to crawl. Trust me, she's perfect just the way she is. So is your baby, so let him do it when he's ready. Before you know it, you'll wish you still had a baby that just sat, or laid there. Soon he will be crawling and you know have no idea what you're in for!!

Children reach every level at different times. Our son is 7 mths old and sat unassisted around 5 1/2 months. Congratulations!

depends on his development. my baby is 6 months and he is well balanced, but doesn't sit unsupported. But on my one of my other kids, they were sitting unsupported around 3 1/2 months. They all learn the same things eventually, just at different paces. Enjoy the in-mobility while it lasts.
