Look at www.dell.com, look for a laptop with 512MB RAM, at least 80GB hard disk. Or, even check out www.deals2buy.com and look for computer deals (there's a separate tab).

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and it's great! :) Like yourself, I don't need a huge fancy machine with all the multimedia whistles and bells. I just needed a good Windows XP-based laptop, since my old Macintosh OS 9.2 desktop can no longer do certain things I need, but I definitely can NOT afford a new Mac! :(

Toshiba apparently has dozens of different Satellite models in the series. Mine is the L25 - S1192, although that really means nothing to me! *chuckle* Also, it has a Celeron M processor, if that means anything additional (it doesn't to me). I got it for a steal of a deal at Best Buy, during their day-after-Christmas sale. :)

My Satellite is not too heavy, has a nice large screen, the keys and touchpad are laid out well, and it plays CDs and DVDs and burns CDs. I forgot how much memory and hard drive space it has, but I remember back in December, thinking it was PLENTY for any use I'd need the computer for.

Good luck in your search! :)

laptop computers can be a rather tricky buy at times, I would suggest that you look out for the cheapest and yet latest desktop on the market,

the best way to do this is on what they call warehouse sale markets some of them are online.

these warehouse owners have a service where they sell laptop computers to normal customers like you and me, however with very reduced prices due to the fact that they do not have as much costs as normal shops do, such as rent and a employees etc. as you know most online shops have rather competitive prices sometimes cutting the laptop price to a half.

one such website for laptop computers is :

I just decided on a Lifebook myself from Fujitsu. It is top of the line, but I do a lot of heavy data-processing, so I needed the dual hard-drives and tons of RAM.

The HPs and the Dells are good for regular business machines, and relatively inexpensive.
