Horizons was originally sponsored by GE and when the sponsorship was dropped the pavilion was closed. This was about the time Epcot started to make a shift from an educational park to an entertainment or infotainment park. They changed the name of the entire park from EPCOT Center (an acronym for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) to just EPCOT (Disney employees say it stands for Every Person Comes Out Tired).

They began replacing the slow rides such as General Motors World of Motion with Test Track. Horizons was replaced with Mission Space and recently Food Rocks was replaced with Soarin'. Mission Space which replaced Horizons has been in the news lately with several guests "expiring" after riding the attraction. All of these guests had pre-existing conditions. In response Disney now offers a "high speed" and "no motion" version of the ride.

Horizons was a ride in Epcot that took you into the future. It showed what it would be like to live in a space, ocean or desert colony. It was funny and cool. Don't know why they got rid of it. You got on these sideways cars that seated 4 people and closed when you went in it and you were watching the actions from a side perspective instead of the front on view you get in most rides. Absolutely loved the ride and I miss it. The building had a sort of a baseball diamond shape. It was sponsored by General Electric.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure I ever went on this attraction. If I did it was when I was younger, and I don't remember it. Horizons was an attraction sponsored by GE (General Electric.) It was closed down because the company decided to stop sponsoring it because they felt their money wasn't being put to good use. It was shut down for a big renovation, but it never happened. GE felt it wasn't being well kept by Disney, which is sad, because I think they do a great job with most of the other attractions, and I love Walt Disney World.

Here you go!! Hope this helps...

lol Oh! Now that I've looked at the pictures on that link, I do remember it! I was 11 when I went on it. It was pretty cool. I like rides like that though. Like, Spaceship Earth... the slow-moving, educational rides at Epcot. It's sad it's gone!
