Ive asked this before, with no real answer. I had a few comments, but no answers.

What has the democratic party done for the 'poor' people in the past 20 years? Why do poor people think they should be democrats?

The only answer I got last time was the 'head start' program, (which was a lindon johnson program)and I showed them that bush increased funding to that program.

There seem to be a lot of liberals on right now, so I should be flooded with answrs.

the answers are already generalizing. Please, someone give me specifics.

Don't tell me to 'read history', if you read it, tell me what the democrats have done specifically.

Don't tell me, republicans only care about the rich, how is that an answer?

was there a tax raise for poor people i didn't hear about? Democrats are the ones who want to tax everything, not republicans.

Troops aren't in the military to get benefits, & vetrans shouldn't be stealing for the reconstruction money over an offense by the previous & now defunct government. There are frozen assets in the US & Europe that could be attached, but the US govt should provide for these men's disablity. I'm for a vastly different & better VA program, but that's always been down the list of priorities for both parties. Troops support the President because he's taking on a confrontational foreign policy that they agree with.

As for the poor:

Democrats believe in conspiracy darwinism... That is that poor people are poor because the man is holding them down (from education, jobs, etc). Hence as victims they need govt intervention to save them from theri oppressors. To solve this they do just as they tend with any other problem, they throw money at it.

Republicans tend to believe in something similar to social darwinism. That is that the world being a natural free-market, those that are capable (smart, dedicated, hard working, innovative, etc) tend to get rich, while those that are not capable (uneducated, lazy, not socially motivated, etc) tend to get poor. Of course everyone starts at different levels. Those that start rich (spoiled bastard tho they are) are living the rewards of hard work in past generations, and good for them. Everyone else can't climb the whole ladder at once. Your job in life is to work hard as you can so you can EARN your children a better oportunity than you had (ask illegal immigrants what they're doing). The role of govt is only to make sure everyone has access to the minimum level of opportunity necessary to gain the average level income. It is good for us to be charitable with the poor, but this should be structured in such a way as to help them find the opportunities to succeed on their own. As in welfare should only last 18-24 months & include mandatory job training & placement, family counseling, etc with free child care while that's taking place. And, we should double the number of fraud investigators on the program.

PS, Bush raised the number significantly below which you own zero taxes. Head start was used to manipulate children from their parents' views, it would have died because of this, but Reagan saved it by putting it back on a strictly educational path & tripled its funding. Both Bushs have increased funding also. This Pres Bush passed significant tax cuts that were went back to people according to what they paid in. That means if you are paying 15% you don't really do much to help the govt & you aren't going to get much back. That's fair, versus democrats who strictly want to redistribute wealth from the rich to the poor without regard to earning it (again because they think they're victims of the corporate bugoise - very Karl Marx of them).

Your Republicans are as bad if not worse. At least the Democrats are honest and say they are in favor of socialism. The frauds like Bush claim to be fiscal conservatives, then throw even more money at these programs then the Democrats. Free prescription drugs anyone?

This year the democrats have been fighting hard for poor people. They have worked in congress to fight against the bankruptcy bill which hits mostly poor and lower middle-class households.

Democrats worked hard to try to get the republican congress and Bush to FUND No Child Left Behind so that it could actually remediate the problems schools are facing.

They have worked hard to preserve funding for low income housing, education programs, aid to states for medicaid in order to help the poor with healthcare. They have fought very hard to fight against the republicans overhaul of overtime rules, which would make it harder for hourly employees to collect overtime.

Demcrats have fought hard to give aid to states to help with their struggling programs for the poor.

Democrats have consistently pushed to raise the minuimum wage and it looks like that might happen soon.

Democrats and moderate republicans repeatedly extended unemployment beneifts for people laid off during the Bush economic downturn.

After Katrina, the Democrats were instrumental in making sure that direct aid went to the poorest people not just business owners and homeowners.

During the prescription drug debate, democrats worked hard to try to get more benefits for poor families and were only partially successful.

They were successful in stopping the repeal of the estate tax, which provides billions of dollars to government programs designed to help the poor.

Democrats locally all over the country have tried hard to shut down payday loans and other predatory lenders who are hurting the poor.

There examples of democrats looking out for the poor and middle class every day. Look at almost any democratic amendment to a republican "reform" bill. The democrats always try to insert protections and benefits for lower income americans and help them whenever possible.

The above is just since bush took over.

If you have to keep adding "additional details" then your question is obviously flawed.

AmeriCorps a program started with Bill Clinton has helped a lot of "poor" young people learn a trade and obtain work breaking the cycle of welfare amongst many families.

The jobs program introduced by Bill Clinton created millions of jobs many of which were taken by participants in the welfare to work program.

Clinton increased HUD spending which allowed more availability of low income housing.

Just remember it is better to be poor in the pocket than poor in spirit.

Several democrats including members of the Shriver family and the ACLU sued the City of Santa Monica for trying to stop charitable foundations from feeding the poor.

They claimed the city was trying to disenfranchise the homeless by driving them out, but fortunately, the city backed down due to popular furor over the inhumane nature of the restriction.

I ask you, why is W so revered by the troops when he cut Veteran's benefits and had his Atty Gen bar claims by veteran's of the First Gulf War against Iraqi assets for damages caused by Gulf War Syndrome?

Andddddd, can a President (and his lackies in Congress) who has turned in the 3 largest budget deficits in US history really be called "conservative?"

And President Johnson spelled his name Lyndon, junior.
