I am interested in opening my own coffee shop, where do I start? Financing ideas? Is this a lucrative idea for the Atlanta market? Have you any information for me? Well, have you?

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Ultimate Guide to Specialty Retail: How to Start a Cart, Kiosk or Store -- by Patricia Norins
* Start and Run a Coffee Bar by Tom Matzen, Marybeth Harrison
* Coffee Basics: A Quick and Easy Guide by Kevin Knox
* How to Open a Financially Successful Coffee, Espresso & Tea Shop by Elizabeth Godsmark
* ESPRESSO! Starting and Running Your Own Specialty Coffee Business by Joe Monaghan

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

open a corporation in the state you live in and get stock certificates. you can try to sell those stock certificates to raise money for your business, but those stock holders will be part owner and you will have to keep them updated on there investment on your idea. look for ways to raise money like fundraisers. once you open the corp you can open a busines bank account with your tax id and use that account to deposit all funding for the business. i dont know atlanta but if you research the area (population , how many coffee shops in the area, traffic) and you think you can be successful take a shot. your never going to know until you try it but you can make an educated guess with the information you gather about the market in atlanta.

The first place I looked when I was starting a business was at Business.gov. Its a federal government web site that walks you through the steps of getting set to open a business. They help you in writing a business plan, which in turn, gives you the step by step process that you should follow in getting started.

Best of Luck!
