Doing any one thing too long, as in 'all day' quoting your question, is not good for anyone. If all day, all you do is feed hungry people, there are disadvantages as well.
A few years back I bought a game for my PS 2 that has actually helped the physical fitness of my family. DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) Of course, you must get the play pads so they get up and use their body to play.
The pad can be used on other games as well as DDR.
I gain from video games a feeling of accomplishment when I figure out the strategy that wins. Not to mention entertaiment.
Agreed there are a lot of losses with games: time, socialization, in most cases physical fitness, but the answers to your question are what is gained.
There is good and bad in everything!

Well, I was reading something on a diet website the other day, and it was saying that video/ pc games are actually really god if you are trying to loose weight, because you get so engrossed in the game that you dont eat! Some theory behind that I suppose!

Studies have shown that its great for young kids as they are given the opportunity to solve problems on their own, as well as develop their strategic thinking. Plus its alot of fun when you have nothing to do. And theres a game for everyone out there. Every single person will find a game that they will love.

Gainful employment.
A gamer named Fatil1ty played Unreal Tournament so much and won so many tournaments that he's now a millionaire and a franchised person (like Tiger Woods)

I find opinionated people boring.
Accept that video games are just not for you.
I can take out frustration in a fictional world that I might otherwise take out on people like you.

Improve your motor skills, bragging rights, something to talk about, something to do when you're bored, a great challenge (sometimes), something to ask ?'s on here about, a great story (sometimes), better hand eye coordination, something to do instead of murdering someone, it's fun, great music (sometimes), something to fill up storage space, or just something to do just because.

NO IT'S NOT. Video games are fun and awesome. Just tell me what you like, and there's probably a video game for it.

Hand/eye coordination. It is, after all, better for your mind than just watching TV. At least it is in my opinion...
