LA can be pretty laid back. There will be some shock, however: -Everything in LA is very spread out. -Since public transport is so limited (bacause of everything being spread out), everybody drives. You need a car, and traffic is always bad. -We only have two seasons: Early, mid, and late summer... and the other one which really can't be called winter because it doesn't snow. Please don't come here and complain about the lack of seasons. You may laugh at LA locals who put on heavy jackets when it gets below 60, but do not complain about the lack of seasons. -340+ days of sun makes up for a lot of traffic -When it does sprinkle, it's a major news item here. Also, people slow WAY down. People from back east don't slow down in the rain because they are in it all the time. Here, when it rains, all the oil that's been hiding in those little road grooves and cracks all summer comes to the surface, and the roads are slick. That's why we slow down. Don't want to crash the BMW, you see. -I've seen too many New Yorkers come here and b*tch about everything. Is that a NY thing? With all that sunshine, you really have nothing to complain about here. Welcome, and enjoy.

Chapman University is in Orange, CA (about an hour from LA), College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, University of Texas in Austin, Full Sail in Florida, Vancouver Film School in Vancouver, there are TONS of filmschools around the country. Also, there are film camps offered at UCLA, USC, etc. though they are pricey. There is also one I know of taught at UT Austin. It's about...$600 I believe.

Check out the University of Montana at Bozeman. In the late 1950-s and through the 1960-s they had a first-rate film school. I lost my "inside contacts" in 1969 and don't know what's happened there since then.
I also remember reading 8-or-so years ago that someone (I think it was UNC) was starting a film school in Wilmington, NC.
