I just fixed my temperature gauge, i have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT and the needle stays anywhere between 205-220. Is that ok? If not what might be wrong with it.

Some cars are indeed designed to run a little warmer than the typical 180-190 degrees. 220 Sounds a little warm, though. Bear in mind, many gauges nowadays are electrically damped, that is, as long as the computer sees that things are in the normal range, it simply tells the gauge to point in the middle range. If it notices that something is out of sorts, then the computer will have the gauge indicate a hig or low reading. This is done to prevent niggling warranty claims, such as, "My neighbor has the same car and theirs has more oil pressure than mine." As long as the gauge does not read in the "H" or 'red' area, you should be fine. Just keep an eye on it.

Most late-model cars like yours run at plus-or-minus 220 degrees farenheit, so if anything, your car sounds like it's running a little on the low temperature side. Temperature gauges are notorious for being imprecise, though, so I'd have a mechanic take a reading with a digital thermometer and see what it really is.

If your car has a cooling system issue, your mechanic can help you from there. :)

That's a little warm, but nothing to really worry about. Your owner's manual will tell you what temperature range you should expect, that should be the first thing to check.

If there is a problem, it usually lies in your thermostat. Replace the thermostat (it's very easy to do on most North American cars), and you should be fine.

220 is getting hot! Do you have coolent added? Are you using your air-conditioning? These are other things make a big difference.

i would think depends what size thermostat you got as high it will go,i think if you got a 195 degrees then it should go above that temp. and when it opens up it should drop back to arouund that temp.or a little higher.
