the previous answer is incorrect. What you have is a "controlled receptacle". there is probably no longer something incorrect that changing it would fix. look for a change someplace that feels like it does no longer something. Key the change some cases mutually as your receptacle tester is plugged into the right one. you could word it shows circuit ok then no skill as you key the change. The black twine is your consistent, the pink your change-leg. The white is the independent and the eco-friendly is your grounding conductor. If the receptacle have been fed with 2 circuits, like a number of different guy mentioned, your independent would be overloaded and would burn the domicile down. In all honesty, in case you will desire to ask questions like this, then you rather should not be messing with the electric powered wiring. electric powered marvel kills. Your familiar lights and equipment circuits have a 15amp breaker for over-contemporary protection. One 10th of one ampere in the time of your heart is sufficient to make it supply up.

look for a small allan key screw near the base, that might need to be loosened

sometimes though, some of these lamp sockets aren't meant to be disassembled

also, before wasting too much time on it - ou should make sure the socket is safety rated, if not get a new one.
