According to Dr. Freud, there is a thing called the Oedipus syndrome, which is exactly what you are saying, “The child will have sexual feelings for the parent of the opposite sex.” Now whether he meant this literally or figuratively I don’t know. He could have meant that we base our sexual identity on our parent of the opposite sex.
That guy was crazy and on drugs.

No, this doesn't happen, as you said yourself it is gross.
I'd also like to point out the theories of Freud has effected the working of social services and the way that people view sexual abuse, it has put societal ideals decades behind.
Children love their parents, there in no way that a child is going to mix these emotions with those of a sexual nature, especially if they aren't even aware of sexuality in general.
Freud has a lot to answer for!

Yes this is very true. The term for this feeling is called the "Oedipus Complex". It originates from a Greek Mythology of a child who falls in love with his mother and kills his dad because of his feelings. However, this is nothing weird because Seigmund Freud stated that it is perfectly normal and many children go through it especially when they are younger. I definitely believe that it is a universal development of childhood because I have seen it around me all the time. When you professor states sexual feelings what he means is that the child feels nurtured, satisfied, and feel that they are competing for love either with their mother or father.

Didnt Freud propose that? That was a really long time ago and there have been a lot of advances since then. Many psychologists dismissed that even then. Psychology is mostly theory, it doesn't necessarily mean it is true. Your teacher is freak.;P

People tend to confuse their sexuality with the act (or the desire for the act) of sex. But, the act is only a very small part of it. Our sexuality is linked to our psychological and spiritual make-up. It is never dormant. Life and love and and anything that elicits intense emotion produces feelings that are similar to sexual desire. The love between parents and children can produce intense feelings. It doesn't meant they want to have sex with each other. (Although, there is a disorder, it's not common)
A lot of people are disconnected from their sexuality and cannot distinguish it from the act of sex. To me, that's pretty gross.

psychologists make up all sorts of wierd stuff, maybe it says more about the personal issues of the people making up that stuff. Sure, breastfeeding and all is sexual , for both genders I think. Not in a mature equal sexual way. More in a normal mother child way. Sensual more than sexual maybe. Now next maybe some conservative foks will be calling breastfeeding moms pedophiles or something.

Freud thought so. It's called the "Oedipus Rex" syndrome. Google it for an explanation. Usually it is possessive love, not passion or sex, and it does not manifest itself as incest unless the parent is deranged.

those feelings are a part of growing up, most kids will feels them but wont act on them, it is normal for them to feel that way but they need to be told that its okay and not to worry, if not delt with the correct way and can lead to problems down the road, it is all part of the brains development, i guess that your teacher has not read all his books or else he would know that it is TRUE. but not all kids have it.
