Why or why not?

No, because the students who do not want to be in school are a big distraction. It would be a good idea if all students wanted to go, but I doubt it's going to happen as long as school is mandatory. So it's an untenable rule: the benefits disappear as soon as it's enforced.

Yes, I do think school should be mandatory until the age of 16. There are three main reasons:

One: At the age of sixteen, most people are mature enough to make decisions by themselves. They can think of the pros and cons of dropping out vs. not dropping out. Also, by then they are aware that it's very difficult to get a good job unless you have finished high school, and preferably college.

Two: At that age, they are also old enough to get a job to support themselves, so they have the option of getting a steady job as opposed to hanging on the streets.

Three: Education is important. It is my personal opinion that school should be mandatory until the age of 18, because that is when people are considered adults. Just think about it: at the age of sixteen, you can drop out of school, which will make a huge difference in you life; but you can't vote for things that very often don't change your life day-to-day. Maybe after sixteen, students can go for shorter days focusing on career training and life skills rather than longer, college-prep focused days, but I still think that they should be learning something.

No, I think it should mandatory until you are at least 18. Hopefully, someday the world evolve enough for every child to have it be a given that they can go to school. You do realize this is a sacred thing to be able to have education given to all of us here in the U.S. ?

Nope. I think that if people don't want to be in school, they should get the hell out and let kids who want to achieve and have success be free to learn.

And the disruptors and violent kids need to be kicked out. Their 'right' to an education ends when they prevent others from their right to an education.

The freedom to achieve is also the freedom to fail miserably.

No, I don't believe education should be mandatory. However, I believe that people who don't participate should not be allowed to receive governmental benefits.

No, just another something for the Govt. to regulate. Getting damn tired of everything being regulated and banned. Before you know it the govt. will ban barbequing hambergers in your back yard while you drink a Coors and smoke a cigarette. Because if you ask the right people, all of those things are bad for you. EVERBODY STOP MAKING PEOPLE LIVE THE WAY YOU WANT THEM TO, ONE OF THESE DAYS SOMEONE WILL TAKE ONE OF YOUR FREEDOMS AWAY AND YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe so, but after about 6th grade they should be divided into different groups to finish, such as potential collage students, manual labors and future criminals .this will keep from bringing down the ones who actually want to learn, to a lower level.......
