Just write & ask "Do you want to come to UK to visit me".
How difficult was that?

If you write the "invitation letter" meant to be a document which will be applied in the UK embassy then it should be formal, saying like: I, (your full name) invite (the name of your friend) to come here for a visit. I will support his/hers expenses and costs of hospitalization (it's just a part of formality).. For the further information, see at home office..This is the case if your friend needs the visa to come to UK

I assume this is for a visa. Address it to the embassy, state that you are inviting your friend for "xxxxxx" (give dates), state that you will financially support them, state that you will deliver them to the port for their return trip, give details of return ticket and state that they have a job or uni or "life" back in their own country to return to.... put all this into a well worded letter for your friend to take with their visa application... one other thing, it must be hand written... they know that foreigners can use computers these days....

Well call that person and tell them and have a good conversation about the party. Then he will get excited, and then remined him with the invitation.
