I am interested in learning the ins and outs of band management and band merchandise management. Where is the best place to start online? Can you recommend any books?

I REALLY like www.getsigned.com. They have books and articles about management/promotion. They also have consultants available (they're spendy), but if you're at a point where you don't know what to do next - they could probably help. Jeri Goldstein does the Manager in a Box and Booking shows.
I like Tim Sweeney as well at TSAmusic.com. I HIGHLY recommend his books and CDs on self promotion (even though you're looking to do things for a band, he really has some terrific ideas.)
If you want to make some cheap t-shirts for your band, go to cafepress.com, and oriental trading company has all kinds of stuff you can get the band name printed on. Depending on your budget. But I would start with getsigned and tim sweeney. Good luck!!!!
