Hi,
Ok, I am 13. For the summer, i am going to work at an "In-home daycare" with an adult. The adult hired me for assistance. She is currently looking after a 2 yr old, 4 tr old, and 9, month yr old, plus HER OWN 6 month yr old. That is why she hired me for the summer, it is a handful. Because she has to devote a lot of her time to her own 6 month yrold, she wants me to mainly take care of the 9month yr old, the other 2 kids (2 and 4), we can share the responcibility. So, this 9 month yr old is sorta a big responcibility. Any suggstions. I love children, and I am really good with babies. I am taking my Babysitters course, too. But I would like some ideas of fun things to do with the babie to have fun. Oh, and can you please tell me some goof techniques of how to soothe a baby when it is crying? This baby is a boy. Oh, and the adult I am with is 25 so I do have assistance. Thanks, I appreciate it!

Lucky for you a 9 month old is easier than a 4 month old as far as soothing goes. I have an 8 month old. She just likes to be picked up hugged and snuggled when she needs soothing. If the 9 month old wakes up in the middle of the nap, rubbing his back may work. As far as games go...peek a boo, patty cake, blow kisses, itsy bitsy spider. My 8 month old LOVES rubber duckies. I fill a big tupperware container with water, put her rubber duckies in and let her splash and play. The floor gets soaked and so does she but she loves it. Music is also fun, they are starting to learn how to dance. Be goofy, make funny faces. Mimic things and sounds that they make. When my daughter says baba I sing baba black sheep and it makes her smile! Good luck, it sounds to me you are going to be great!

When my girl was 9 months old, I would have flipped out if I'd found out she was being taken care of by a 13 year-old, no matter how responsible the 13 year-old was. I am admittedly overprotective, though, but still... I'd be more comfortable with that at 3+ than at 9 months. Frankly, it would be enough for me to pull my child out of there and find alternative care.
Again, this is no matter how responsible the 13 year-old is, that's just a lot of responsibility on you, and if I as a parent was paying the fees thinking my child was being watched by an adult, but I found out that a 13 year-old was doing most of the watching, I would yank my child out of there in a hurry. You can also bet that if anything happened while my child was in the care of that teen I'd take the provider to court in a heartbeat, *especially* if I had not been made aware of the change in responsibility. Just be careful, please.

Nine months is a very fun age. . . also a very difficult one. The main things to worry about is making sure his environment is always safe because he is crawling and exploring. Also he will be pulling up on things and maybe beginning to try and walk. Keep things out of reach that could harm them.
Babies of this age love songs and books. They like simple hand games and also toys that move or make sound.
They can be afraid of strangers at this age so don't feel bad if it takes a few days or a week for them to get to know you.
The main thing to remember is that every baby is different and the best way to learn is by experience. Don't be afraid to ask for help and if you are getting too stressed have someone relieve you for a few minutes. Also I would advise getting your CPR and first aid cert. it isn't hard and can save a life.

I was a nanny for a while, when the baby starts to cry, don't get upset. It's like they know when your uneasy, and they cry more! Hold them real close to calm them and talk really quietly to them. Try to get their mind off what ever is bothering them. For example if they fall and scrape their knee and its bleeding, tell him something to change the subject while you get a band-aid. I know it sounds crazy but don't even mention the knee. Their attention span is very short, and you sholud be able to refocus them quickly. I always did a lot of goofy projects with them: painting pinecones and then gluing then to a foam cone to make a tree. They can make a mess, it takes forever to finish, and it's kinda cute when its done. I also cooked alot with the kids. I would bake 2 - 9" cakes and let each child decorate one. Stuff like that, where they could be proud of what they've done... They just love attention! And always re-enforce the good behavior, and don't dwell on the bad. Good luck and have fun!

i have a one year old daugher, there are many ways to keep the baby from crying, you have to experiment with a lot. You try to carry the baby and rock the baby back and forth, give the baby a bath, sing some hyms while rocking the baby, play some music, give the baby something to play with, play with her by doing pika boo. and the list goes on.

My 9 month old son loves to play and be read to! He likes going outside for walks, or watching our dogs run around. He loves music and watching the TV. Just keep him busy and he will be happy!
