stripping your membranes and being induced and having an epidural are probly why you had problems during your previous birth (if you gave birth to your baby while lieing on your back that also contributed)
first a 9lb 4 oz baby is not too big to have a natural birth, second ultrasound cannot tell the weight of your baby, third a babys growth slows alot after 36 weeks they donot gain .5 lbs a week at that point
it is unhealthy to be induced at all but the risk to your baby increases the sooner you do it. your doctor is right to wait till you are at least 2 weeks overdue
you should educate yourself more about the process of birth that will help you be less fearful :)

First, I wouldn't be too concerned. The ultrasounds are rarely "right-on" when it comes to the weight... I had twins in 2004, and although they were pretty close, they were still estimating over 8oz on one baby, and a full pound on the other (they were born *less* than they estimated from the ultrasound)!
My story: I've had three pregancies, the last twins. First baby, completely natural (no drugs whatsoever before birth), 3 days late, 10 hours labor start to finish (only 2 hours hard labor). Second baby, completely natural (they couldn't get the IV in my hand while I was delivering), 8 days late, 7 hours start to finish (about 1 hour hard labor). Third preganancy (3rd and 4th babies), at 39 weeks (technically 1 week early for full-term single birth, but 3 weeks "late" for what is considered "full term" for multiples", natural with epidural (that was AWESOME!!!), 12 hours start to finish, but they had to slow down my labor at one point, because the operating room wasn't ready... due to it being twins, they wanted to prepare in case I needed an emergency C-section.
Each labor for me got a little easier, most women's do... as far as an epidural not working, everytime I've talked to mom's about that, it's always been determined that it was when it was administered. I've never actually met anyone that thought it was the medication itself, not that it's not possible. As hard as it is to do this (how well I remember), you're best bet is to relax as much as possible... and of course, if you're anything like me, try to induce labor... sex, vacuuming (long steady strokes), lots of walking, and more sex! lol!
Hope it helps. Congrats on your baby boy (I've got 3 boys, one girl)! Just try to relax and realize that doctors usually are worried if there's even a chance that something could go wrong, so if doc's not worried, there's really no reason for you to be...

I wish you would of got a different dr. He sounds like a quack! Maybe you should go into the hospital and say you are having pains and they wont stop, then they might induce you. I did that. They said something could of been wrong, but if your really worried go in. I have 4 big children (at birth they were big). My biggest was only 9.3 though. But I know what your going through. Put yourself in labor
*have sex
*go for a walk
*take a long shower or bath
Just get it out before it tares you apart.

Well that is easy. The doctor didn't have to go through what you had to go through...or feel what you had to feel.
Although, I am sure that if there was a major health issue with your pregnancy or delivery then he would be more concerned. Or it could be that he or she is waiting to see what exactly the situation is going to be....ie waiting until you are induced or go into labor to decide on if you are in need of a C-Section.
