I think with the right sponsers available a prominent female driver is in the works. Erin Crocker who currently is driving Trucks shows promise; she is young and good; but the team has to be willing to go against the Good Ol' Boy stigma and let her go; I am afraid that there may never been a female champion at least not in my lifetime.
Danica Patrick is a great open wheel driver, she could possibly see the money and media invovled with Nextel and come over but I wouldn't count on it.
There was an up and coming female driver a couple of years ago that was invovled in an accident during a practice session that killed another driver, she was supposed to be great but was injured seriously in the accident and hasn't returned. I am not sure what her name was but I know this happened like 3 or 4 years ago; she was scheduled to run in a Busch car the next season but hurt her legs in the accident.
I don't think the answer is having female sponsors or car owners either, it is just going to take the right girl teaming up with the right sponser...in all seriously having a girl drive one beer cars would be great publicity because they could market the hell out or her.

Shawna Robinson was the last nextel cup driver. Her sponsor was Topicana Juice. She was a good driver but never really had the sponsor support the other drivers have. If she did she would make a run at winning a race but not championship. Danica Patrick is the best women driver now in the indy series and i think she can win the championship there soon.

I'm going to have to vote no on this. I"m sure there will be a female driver in the future, and she might be able to drive with the big boys in a competitive form..but I just don't think you'll see a champion. I just think it's going to be a hard world for a woman to break into. I mean, nothing against them, and not that I don't think they'd be competitive..but there would be all the hype..and most little girls don't start off racing go-karts, and so they get into racng later in ages..

It could happen, there's a female driver in champ car and one in IRL, winning would be very difficult i think. This would be a great question for http://www.openwheelfans.com. It's a racing message board and they just added a NASCAR section.

Probably not for awhile, although it could happen if the driver got a really good owner who gave them really good cars to use. Also there aren't really any sponsors in NASCAR that cater to women. Have you ever seen a car sponsored by "Hanes Her Way" or "Bali" or "Playtex"? (all of which by the way are owned by Sara Lee).

I would love to see it. There have only been a couple of qualifiers and someday I believe it will happen. Going to be a while since there aren't any even in contention now. But it will happen!
