I don't know what kinds of bugs you have problems with, so let me tell you what I know. If the problem is roaches I am an expert on keeping them away. I grew up in a house infested, and when I got old enough to be on my own, I never wanted to see another roach as long as i live. Start by cleaning, not surface cleaning, I mean pick one section of a room at a time and sterilise it. Pick up papers and put in one area after sealing them up in some sort of plastic. Wash your walls, exspecially in the kitchen. Roaches can live for a long time on just a greasy fingerprint. Clean your stove! under behind inside, and lift up the top. There is no reason for the top of your stove to be dirty, not only will it invite roaches, but it also says a lot about you. sprinkle comet or softscrub on your stove top, along with a little top job, to make it sparkle again.Keep food covered tightly, anything that is opened has to be resealed before putting it back, even if it's just put in a plastic bag and tied shut. For waterbugs, ants, and any other crawling insect, put traps down behind everything and always dry up as much water as you can. Never ignore water leaks in any part of your home, mainly the basement where many bugs live and breed. study the situation, what area does it seem like you see them the most. If you can localize the areas, and point them out, then you can hire someone WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING, to come in and fix those open spaces that lead to the outside. Whatever you deciede I wish you the best of luck, bugs are my biggest fear, and I know what you're going through.

Sprays and traps are short term only. The ideas already expressed (clean everything, don't leave moist/wet areas, etc) are good advice. You should also consider bait- a mixture of borax powder and sugar will kill ants- slow, but it works; roaches are killed the same way by a sprinkling of boric acid along the baseboards. Not sure what else you have, but Terminix is being sued in dozens of states, and they didn't fix our problems. If you have to spray, do it outside, not inside the house.

Depends on what insects. If you have alot of shrubs and trees near your house, try trimming them back away from the house. Also use foam sealant on all openings, creases and holes. If all else fails use a exterminator.
