I love Stephen King, but the most prolific in all of history? No, I wouldn't say that.
Side thought: I always find it amusing to think about how we look back to writings in history; i.e. homer, the stories of King Arthur, etc., and we wonder if it is historical or fictional, we just don't know for sure. Imagine, 1000 or so years from now, people might be reading Stephen King and wondering the same thing.

No he is not, however he is the most well known author for the generation in which he wrote most of his novels for. To find some of the most famous author's of history you need to look further back into history.
